摘要
Hypohalous acidium ions (protonated hypohalous acids) H2OX+ (X = Cl, Br, I) have been generated in the gas phase by introducing appropriate precursors for the cations X+ and water into the ion source of a mass spectrometer. The collision-induced fragmentation patterns are discussed based on thermochemical considerations. Based on kinetic energy release determinations it is concluded that the generated H2OX+ species exhibit covalent oxygen-halogen bonds. Thus, ion/dipole structures are excluded.
