摘要
Reaction-diffusion fronts occurring during the oxidation of high-coverage CO layers on Pt{100} have been imaged with low-energy electron microscopy. Front propagation is strongly sensitive to the surface microtopography, giving rise to a discontinuous, ''stop-and-go'' movement. Each front consists of a sequence of moving boundaries separating ordered adsorbed phases.
