The life history, current status, and memories of a 31-year-old man who, as a child, had been diagnosed as autistic by Kanner and others is described. Prognostic criteria as related to this individual's outcome are discussed. Some speculations about the inner life of autistic children are advanced on the basis of his recollections. Finally, some hypotheses for further research are suggested on the basis of information gained from this case review. © 1979 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
