31-Azido-3'-deoxythymidine (AZT) exhibits a two-electron diffusion--controTled polarographic reduction wave, with conversion to 31-amino-31-deoxy-thymidine. The mechanism of reduction, analytical and clinical applications, and its use for one-step synthesis of amino from azido nucleosides, are described. © 1990, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
