The structure of the hadronic neutral current in neutrino interactions is examined in detail with particular emphasis on the isoscalar coupling constants. The present status of the single Z boson assumption is discussed. In order to study violations of factorization the phenomenology of expanded gauge theories SU(2) × U(1) × G for arbitrary G is described which are constrained to have the same low-energy neutrino neutral current interactions as SU(2) × U(1). Independent of any further assumptions, various tests for such a gauge structure are possible. The special case of two massive neutral gauge bosons is considered in more detail. © 1979.
