Gravitational settling in concentrated colloidal suspensions may be effectively eliminated on a time-averaged basis simply by rotating the samples very slowly in the vertical plane. We describe the application of this procedure to equilibrium studies of the freezing-melting phase transition of essentially hard colloidal spheres.
