Evaluation of intrasubject variability in the measurement of body composition using electrical bioimpedance in healthy volunteers and its relationship with body mass index and triceps skinfold measurement

Aim. To evaluate the repeatability of body fat mass analysis by electrical bioimpedance. Method. The present longitudinal study evaluated intrasubject variability in body composition measurement in 10 women over 56 days. Three different devices (QuadScan 4000, BF300 and TBF-300) and triceps skinfold measurement were used. Results. Intrasubject variability was between 3.3% and 3.7% for the bioimpedance systems. These values were similar to those of triceps skinfold repeatability (3.3% p > 0.05). Conclusion. The methods studied showed low variability over time and consequently they can be used to monitor body composition, both in clinical practice and in research.
