摘要
Yuse and Sane [Nature (London) 362, 329 (1993); 362,295 (1993)] have shown that a crack traveling in a thin glass plate under thermal stresses undergoes numerous instabilities. The primary instability is calculated using a theory of Cotterell and Rice, [Int. J. Fracture 16, 155 (1980)] and is shown to reflect the velocity-dependent fracture energy of glass.
