IONIZATION OF HELIUM BY HIGH-ENERGY PROTONS

摘要
The Born cross section for the proton ionization of helium is calculated using both the length and velocity formulations of the Born matrix elements. The ground state of helium is represented by a six-parameter correlated wave function; polarized-orbital wave functions are employed for the l = 0, 1 and 2 partial waves of the continuum state and Hartree-Fock wave functions for the l = 3, 4 and 5 partial waves. There is good agreement between the calculated cross section and experiment for incident proton energies greater than 100 kev.
