EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL STUDY OF TRIPLET-TRIPLET ABSORPTION IN PHENYLNAPHTHALENES

摘要：

The triplet-triplet absorption spectra of several phenylnaphthalenes are measured and the absolute extinction coefficients are evaluated using the simultaneous ESR-optical approach. The results of selfconsistent-field molecular-orbital calculations are compared with experiment and good agreement is found for the energies, oscillator strengths, and vibrational envelopes of the triplet-triplet transitions. In addition, the angles of polarization of the triplet-triplet transitions are predicted, and their significance in the interpretation of triplet-state structures is discussed.
