摘要
A simple field system to monitor feeding activity of grazing intertidal mollusks is described. Feeding behavior of the patellid limpet Cellana ornata (Dillwyn) inhabiting high levels on a sheltered rocky shore was studied. Feeding in this species was mainly restricted to diurnal submersion periods, during which it was continuous with radula rasping rate remaining more or less constant over the entire submersion period. This general pattern varied between individuals and was influenced by waves; wave action in particular appears to be important in stimulating foraging. In an individual studied regularly over an entire year, radula rasping rate was directly related to environmental water temperature.
