Lawrence Livermore Laboratory are currently designing and constructing a diamond turning machine which, when completed in 5 years time, will be the world's most accurate lathe. It will handle components up to 84 in (2.1 m) in diameter and weighing up to 10 000 lbs (4500 Kg). © 1979.
