Frequency stabilization of 1.5-mu-m DFB laser diode can be accomplished by using a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) ring resonator whose resonant frequency is locked to (C2H2)-C-12 and (C2H2)-C-13 gas absorption lines. The resonant frequency of PLC ring resonator is stabilized within 5 MHz peak to peak fluctuation. With this ring resonator, the center frequency fluctuation of DFB laser diodes is stabilized within 10 MHz at every resonant frequency at 5 GHz intervals.
