A SIMPLE METHOD FOR PRESERVATION OF FINE STRUCTURE IN BLOOD CELLS

A technique is described which simplifies the preparation of blood leukocytes and platelets for electron microscopy without sacrificing morphologic preservation. The method has the following advantages: simplicity of procedure without sacrifice of morphology; elimination of need for rapid processing and cumbersome ice water baths; samples may be shipped to other laboratories after initial fixation; applicable to cytochemical and immunochemical studies; fine structural preservation is excellent. Structures which are destroyed by cold are maintained by the method described.
