PHOTOPERIODICITY AND ENZYMATIC ACTIVITY (PEPCARBOXYLASE AND MALIC ENZYME) IN KALANCHOE BLOSSFELDIANA LEAVES

摘要
In young leaves of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, short days induce a rapid rise in PEP carboxylase and malic enzyme activities together with the establishment of a circadian rhythm of activity. This action is inhibited by red light given as a night-break. As a working hypothesis for this process, we propose a mechanism based on the activation of PEP carboxylase synthesis by the phytochrome system and feedback regulation of its activity by malic acid. © 1970.
