TRANSPORT CURRENT-DENSITY IN BULK ORIENTED-GRAINED YBA2CU3OX/SILVER COMPOSITES

A liquid-phase processing method has been developed to manufacture bulk oriented-grained YBa2Cu3Ox/silver (1-2-3/Ag) superconducting composites with large current carrying capacity and enhanced mechanical properties. It is found that addition of up to 25 wt.% Ag does not significantly affect the transport critical current density of these composites. Furthermore, J(ct) of 1-2-3/Ag composites is weakly dependent on applied magnetic field indicating that weak-links are largely eliminated through texturing. In a nominal 15 wt.% Ag, the values of J(ct) at 77 K are 86 000 A/cm2 and 18 500 A/cm2 at zero and 1.5 T applied field, respectively.
