Patterns of secretion of mineralocorticoids in patients with benign or malignant adrenal tumors, with adrenal syndromes associated with increased production of ACTH, or activation of the renin-angiotensin system, or with nonendocrine carcinoma or hyperthyroidism are reported. The results indicate duality of regulation of desoxycorticosterone (DOC), corticosterone (B) and aldosterone. Increased production of DOC and B can produce a syndrome similar to primary aldosteronism and may contribute to the manifestations of many disease processes. © 1968.
