摘要
A steady-state discrete-staged system is optimized by considering the staged system as evolving in time, each stage variable being an element in the over-all state vector. This introduces a convexing effect and allows the continuous maximum principle to be used. Two famous examples which have been used to illustrate the defects of the discrete approach are analyzed by the present method with positive results. © 1968, American Chemical Society.
