ON THE COARSENING MECHANISMS OF HELIUM BUBBLES - OSTWALD RIPENING VERSUS MIGRATION AND COALESCENCE

摘要
In this paper a new strategy was applied to discriminate the working coarsening mechanism of inert gas bubble growth in metals. We have investigated invariances of the two coarsening mechanisms in question. Ostwald ripening (OR) and migration and coalescence (MC). AISI 316 stainless steel samples were implanted at room temperature to helium concentrations from 2-200 appm and subsequently annealed at 1023 K in a wide range of time, 3.8 ks-12.1 Ms (1.05-3360 h), so that the respective invariances could be tested. We could identify regions in annealing time and helium concentration dominated by OR or MC mechanism and transition regions from one to the other.
