A STUDY OF MAGNETIC DIPOLE MOMENTS OF 192IR AND 194IR AND DECAY SCHEME OF 192IR BY NUCLEAR ORIENTATION

The hyperfine interactions of 192Ir and 194Ir present as dilute impurities in an iron lattice and their radioactive decay to 192Os, 192Pt and 194Pt, have been investigated using the low-temperature nuclear orientation technique with high-resolution gamma-ray detectors. New gamma rays of 595, 683 and 848 keV have been found in the 194Ir spectrum and fitted into the existing level scheme. The magnitudes of the magnetic dipole moments have been measured to be |μ| = 1.41±0.08 n.m. for 192Ir and |μ| = 0.37±0.04 n.m. for 194Ir. Beta decay matrix element ratios (jβ = 1 jβ = 0) have been determined for the 669 keV and 252 keV transitions with ΔI = 0 in the decay of 192Ir. The E2/M1 mixing ratios δ have been determined for the 604 keV (δ = -1.50±0.10), 308 keV (δ = +7.3±0.2) and 296 keV (δ = +15± 1 50) gamma transitions in 192Pt. These results are compared with appropriate theoretical calculations and experimental systematics. © 1969.
