STRUCTURE OF THERMALLY OXIDIZED BISMUTH-FILMS

摘要
Thin films of bismuth (250-600 Å) prepared by vacuum evaporation have been oxidized by heating in air. The structure of the films thus obtained has been studied by electron microscopy and electron diffraction. After the films had been heated in air at a temperature of 178±5°C for a few days they revealed the presence of two well-known phases of bismuth oxide, namely Bi2O2.33 and α-Bi2O3 depending upon the conditions of oxidation and film thickness. However, in the case of thick films after prolonged heating two extra reflections were observed which do not correspond to any known phase of bismuth oxide and may be due to the formation of a new phase of bismuth oxide. © 1979.
