摘要
Four British coal samples are shown to have pyrite (FeS2) as the principal iron-containing material. On combustion under conditions approximating those in commercial boilers, stoichiometric FeS is formed by pyrolysis and magnetite (Fe3O4) by oxidation. No haematite (Fe2O3) was found, but an additional phase is present which appears to be a high-spin iron(II) sulphide.
