STUDY OF THE MECHANICAL NANOCRYSTALLIZATION PROCESS OF AMORPHOUS FE78B13SI9 ALLOY USING THE PAIR FUNCTION-METHOD

An amorphous Fe78B13Si9 alloy was subjected to high-energy ball milling. Studies were performed for several increasing milling times by means of differential scanning calorimetry and x-ray diffraction. The initial alloy and the milled samples were studied using the pair function method. The analysis of the results has shown that in an amorphous phase defects are created during the first stage of milling, leading to a modified crystallization mechanism. Bulk nucleation is the next stage. The process of the nucleus growth is very limited. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.
