摘要
With supplementation of acetate to the vegetative growth phase, the green alga Haematococcus pluvialis was induced to form cyst cells, which was closely associated with a concomitant increase in the DNA content, and decrease in the protein content. These intracellular changes in the algal cells were drastically retarded when acetate was added together with a high concentration of nitrate, indicating that the encystment is triggered by a high carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio. Astaxanthin formation was accompanied with the encystment induced under the high C/N ratio.
