NEW TABULATION OF THE BOUND-CONTINUUM OPTICAL OSCILLATOR STRENGTH IN HYDROGENIC ATOMS

The optical oscillator strength, f(n, l, n2 ε), for hydrogenic atoms in the initial state nl, and the final energy state ε are tabulated for 1 ≤ n ≤ 50, 0 ≤ l ≤ 26, and 0 ≤ ε ≤ 107 rydbergs/n2. For easy interpolation and extrapolation, nf(n, l, n2 ε) is tabulated as a function of n2ε. In addition, the following three cases have been treated: (1) For x = n2ε ≪ 1 we can write f(nl, x) ≃ f0(nl) - xf1(nl). The coefficients f0(nl) and f1,(nl) are tabulated for 1 ≤ n ≤ 40 and 0 ≤ l ≤ 20. (2) For n2ε ≫ 1 we can write n3f(nl, ε) ∼ Πμ=0l(1 - μ2/n2)[h0(l, ε)-n-2h1(l, ε)]. The coefficients h0,(l, ε) and h1,(l, ε) are tabulated for 0 ≤ l ≤ 45 and 10-2 ≤ ε/rydbergs ≤ 103. (3) For ε ≫ 1, and for ε ≫ 1 and l ≫ 1, analytical formulae are obtained for the oscillator strength and the Gaunt factors. It has been shown that for n ≫ 1 and l ≪ n, the Gaunt factor, g(nl, ε), increases as n2, and for ε ≫ 1 this factor behaves as ε-(1/2+l). In all the cases studied, consistency checks have been made between the values obtained in this paper, and the available data in the literature, and satisfactory agreements have been found.
