COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHIC SCANNING OF THE THORAX IN THE STAGING OF BRONCHOGENIC CARCINOMA

COMPUTED tomography (CT) of the thorax is now being used on a worldwide basis to evaluate various aspects of chest disease. It has been found to be the most sensitive noninvasive technic to detect pulmonary nodules.1,2 Several authors3 4 5 have recently proposed and reported the use of CT scans of the thorax as a staging technic for bronchogenic carcinoma. Studies reported to date have compared CT to conventional noninvasive staging technics, and in one study,5 CT has on occasion replaced invasive staging procedures.
