Discusses the problems and solutions of using nonprofessionals in professional clinical psychological work. With an increasing need for services, especially in community work, a new concept of training must be developed to educate specialists in shorter, less expensive programs. The responsibility to develop these programs falls on psychologists. The need for and the development of effective controls to insure protection of the service-recipient and the quality of service rendered, as well as the roles of professional psychological organizations, psychologists working in the community, and psychological nonprofessional agencies, and institutions in establishing these controls are discussed.
