AUTOIONIZATION OF HIGHER EXCITED-STATES GENERATED BY 2-PHOTON ABSORPTION IN PARA-TERPHENYL CRYSTALS

摘要
It has been found that higher excited states, populated by two-photon absorption, ionize with an efficiency which, in the energy range of 5.3-6.4 eV, is independent of the energy of the excitation. This behavior is similar to that observed in sequential two-step excitation (exciton photoionization) and indicates that the higher excited states rapidly relax to a lower-lying state which autoionizes, irrespective of the mode of excitation. Results of improved measurements of exciton photoionization are also presented.
