EXCITED STATES IN 178HF FROM RESONANCE NEUTRON-CAPTURE GAMMA-RAY STUDIES

摘要
A total of 16 excited states up to 1818 keV in the deformed doubly even nucleus 178Hf was located from observation of the primary gamma rays produced in the reaction 177Hf(n, γ)178Hf. Gamma-ray spectra were obtained at neutron resonances with energies of 1.1, 2.4, 5.9, 6.6 and 8.8 eV. Since the angular momenta of these resonance states are known, the angular momentum quantum numbers of the resulting states were limited to two or at most three values. The level at 1268 keV was studied in a gamma-gamma coincidence measurement and was assigned as a K, Iπ = 2, 3+ state. Other members of this K = 2 band appear to be at 1174 keV (2, 2+) and at 1385 keV (2, 4+). The neutron separation energy of 178Hf was found to be 7625 ± 1 keV. © 1969.
