摘要
The aerial parts of five Mediterranean shrubs were separated into their structural components, leaves (spines in the case of Genista scorpius) and live and dead stems of different diameter size-classes. The surface: volume ratio and specific gravity were calculated for each component type. Our results allowed us to distinguish three categories of species according to the fire hazard they present with regard to their suitability as fuel. Pistacia lenticus was the species presenting the least hazard, Phillyrea angustifolia and Rosmarinus officinalis were intermediate, and Cistus salvifolius and Genista scorpius presented the greatest hazard. © 1990.
