摘要
Maximum activity of the 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate oxidase (previously ethylene-forming enzyme) extracted from ripe melon fruits requires the addition of HCO3-/CO2 to the reaction mixture. Adding HCO3-/CO2 increases the apparent K(m) of the enzyme towards the substrates, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate and O2. The structural analogue of CO2, carbonyl sulphide (COS), inhibits the enzyme in the presence of added HCO3-, but the kinetics of inhibition do not indicate that COS is acting as a reversible inhibitor, competitive with CO2 at a putative CO2-binding site.
