EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL SPECTRA OF STOICHIOMETRIC COMPLEX-IONS IN OXOCHLOROALUMINATE MELTS

摘要
A metastable melt with composition NaAl2OCl5 was prepared and characterized by specular reflection Fourier transform IR spectrometry. A complex ion Al4O2Cl10(2-) was predicted by MNDO/3 calculations to be stable in the melt, and the observed IR spectrum fitted the calculated spectrum well. Three different reaction products obtained on addition of AlCl3 to NaAl2OCl5 were examined and the predicted spectrum of the reaction products was compared with the IR spectrum of the reaction mixtures.
