摘要
Electron microscopic observations of deposits of various salts on collagen have demonstrated strong control of their features-size, location, and crystallinity-by the protein. Certain salts acting as catalysts seem to result in removal of selective portions of collagen aggregates by the electron beam of the microscope. These observations suggest that a more involved model of collagen structure than the current one is required. They also suggest further exploration of electron-induced in situ chemical reactions as a tool for ultrastructure research. © 1969 Academic Press, Inc.
