CHRONIC BURSITIS CAUSED BY PHIALOPHORA-RICHARDSIAE - CASE-REPORT

Phialophora richardsiae is a rare fungus usually found in wood pulp which can have a septate filamentous form in tissue. It has pigmented hyphae, which places it in the group of dematiacious (dark-walled) fungi that are capable of causing cutaneous or subcutaneous granulomatous abscesses known as phaeohyphomycoses. Several other species of the genus Phialophora have caused such subcutaneous infection. We are reporting a case of a subcutaneous granuloma in the olecranon bursa cuased by Phialophora richardsiae. Prior to this report only one other case of human infection due to Phialophora richardsiae has been reported.
