摘要
Crustal structure of south‐western Honshu, Japan, has been studied using seismic waves generated by the Kurayosi and Hanabusa explosions. Inversion of the seismic data was first made by Monte Carlo simulation and then for finer revision with the aid of synthetic seismograms. General features of the crustal structure in this area are as follows: the granitic and basaltic layers are sharply separated by the Conrad discontinuity; seismic wave velocity in the basaltic layer increases monotonically to the Moho; and the velocity discontinuity at the Moho, if any, is not distinct. Although lateral inhomogeneity of crustal structure in this area is considered to be large, evidence indicates that the features described above still hold as a major profile of the structure.
