PATTERN-FORMATION IN ROTATING BENARD CONVECTION

摘要
Using an extension of the Swift-Hohenberg equation we study pattern formation in the Benard experiment close to the onset of convection in the case of rotating cylindrical fluid containers. For small Taylor numbers we emphasize the existence of slowly rotating patterns and describe behaviour exhibiting defect motion. Finally, we study pattern formation close to the Kuppers-Lortz instability. The instability is nucleated at defects and proceeds through front propagation into the bulk patterns.
