Over a seven year period (1986-1993), 16 extrahospital private biological laboratories had collected 7748 isolate from urines. Frequency and antibiotic susceptibility of E. coli have been studied. E coli has been detected in 75 % specimen, more in women than men (62 %). Susceptibility to amoxicillin - clavulanic acid 1, 2 and 3d generation cephalosporins, gentamicin and quinolon remained stable. However, resistance to amoxicillin and cotrimoxazol has grew progressively (respectively from 24 to 33,5 and 1 to 12,8 %). Resistance was not related to age and sexe. We have no found a high rate of resistance to fluoroquinolons, as described in Espana.
