THEORETICAL STUDIES OF SHAKE-UP SATELLITES IN TRANSITION-METAL COMPOUNDS

By using a two-configuration model, a molecular orbital theory for the shake-up satellite in transition-metal compounds is presented. Then, an extension of this simple theory is discussed by taking into account an additional relaxation of the antibonding orbital due to the hole potential. Finally, to study the effects of d-electron itinerancy on the shake-up satellite, the result of a numerical calculation of XPS is presented and discussed on a model system of four clusters forming a square.
