Descriptions of climatic requirements are presented for 21 species in terms of mean annual rainfall, rainfall seasonality, dry season length, mean maximum temperature of the hottest month, mean minimum temperature of the coldest month, absolute minimum temperature and mean annual temperature. These descriptions were checked using a previously described microcomputer program, which evaluates conditions at over 15 000 locations around the world. It is concluded that the descriptions provide a useful global approximation of the species' climatic requirements, which could assist in the selection of suitable species for trials in specific locations.
