The distribution of red cell phosphoglucomutase phenotypes lias been determined in a scries from 554 Japanese individuals. Except for the common three phenotypes, two kinds of variant patterns have been observed in two different persons. These variant types are assumed to be PGM 5-1 and PGM 6-1, respectively. The frequencies of PGM alleles found among the Japanese are PGM11, 0.782; PGM21, 0.216 and each rare allele probably PGMJ. PGM11. 0.001. Other unusual phenotypes controlled by PGM, locus have not been found in the materials examined. © 1969 S. Karger AG, Basel.
