摘要
The EC50 values of phenol (50% decrease in light output) have been determined by using the Microtox(TM) system and Photobacterium phosphorium as the sensor organism. Effects of various physical and chemical factors like pH, temperature, time, aging, etc., have been worked out. The EC50 values of phenol (mg/L) at 15-degrees-C have been found to be 23.28, 25.61, and 26.01 for 5-, 15-, and 30-min incubation periods, respectively. It is also suggested that factors like pH, aging of bacteria, salt concentration, etc., should be indicated when stating EC50 values to facilitate comparison with results obtained by other workers.
