摘要
Many of the 6.8 million elderly in inner cities live in “single room occupancy” (SRO) accommodations-the cheap hotels and rooming houses located in older urban commercial zones targeted for renewal and redevelopment. Through a number of interrelated factors, including poor health and economic restraints, the elderly living in SRO accommodations are in a delicate balance with their urban environment. This article discusses the unique characteristics of the SRO population and community in San Diego, CA, which contribute to high vulnerability in face of environmental disruption. © 1979 Oxford University Press.
