A study is made of the photoconductivity spectra of YBa2Cu3Ox (x < 6.4) films in the range of interband and excitonic transitions (1 to 3.8 eV). Two bands are observed which are correlated to peaks in the absorption spectrum. A discussion is given of the origin of these bands. By analysing the dependence of the signals on light modulation frequency, "true" photoconductivity is separated from a bolometric contribution. The "true" signals are found to decreas as the temperature is lowered from 300 to 150 K. The dependences on modulation frequency and temperature are explained quantitatively on the basis of trapping and retrapping processes involving states in an exponential tail of the relevant energy band.
