This study presents a set of numerical models for simultaneous prediction of mean current, ocean wave spectrum, and mean sea level, applying them to the Venetian coast. Three models are used: a barotropic circulation model, a wave model, and a model describing both wave and current in the near shore zone. The models;are implemented in the Adriatic Sea and in the coastal zone in front of Venice. The results of a hindcast storm are compared with measurements taken in front of the Venetian littoral. The simultaneous description of surface wave, mean current and sea level permits the inclusion of the coupling mechanisms between the wave and the mean motion. The most effective coupling mechanisms are different in the middle of the basin and in the near-shore region. In the middle of the basin the wave modulates the surface stress driving the mean current. In the nearshore region the divergence of the wave radiation stress and of the Stokes' transport gives a major contribution to the overall balances.
