摘要：

Studied nursing behavior in the lactating rabbit from Day 4-14 post-partum. Milk loss was prevented during the 1st nursing by treating the teats with collodion or local anesthetic or by use of a replete foster litter. The S would then nurse twice in the course of a single day. But when the mammary glands were emptied without active nursing during restraint or general anesthesia, Ss would subsequently nurse their litters despite the lack of milk in the glands. It is concluded that mammary distension is a sufficient but not a necessary condition for the display of nursing behavior in the rabbit.
