NON-STOICHIOMETRIC COMPOUNDS WITH A DEFECT CAFE2O4 STRUCTURE - THE MIXED FERRITES CA1-X/2FE2-XSNXO4 AND CA1-(X+Y)/2LIYFE2-XSNXO4

摘要
A large field of nonstoichiometry has been evidenced in the CaFe2 O4 structure. Up to 30% of calcium vacancies can exist in the tunnels of the octahedral framework in the mixed ferrites Ca1-x/2Fe2-xSnxO4. The insertion of lithium in these defect oxides leads to complex oxides with the formula Ca1-(x+y)/2LiyFe2-xSnxO4. The new materials are prepared from solid-state reaction. X-ray diffraction results are related to the evolution of parameters of the orthorhombic cell; a structure determination is described for the compound Ca0.75Fe1.5Sn0.5O4. No order phenomena have been detected in the occupancy of tunnels, as in the octahedral framework. Electrical measurements for T≥723 K reveal a thermally activated total conductivity which is essentially electronic. Despite an extended range of nonstoichiometry in the tunnels of the CaFe2O4 structure, the 1D motion of inserted lithium seems to be rather weak.
