CHARACTERISTIC LENGTH OF GLASS-TRANSITION - IMPOSSIBILITY OF A SHARP CRITICAL KINETIC TEMPERATURE T-C-GREATER-THAN-T-G

摘要
The experimental information about the characteristic length of the dynamic glass transition and its temperature dependence is collected. Extrapolation to the splitting region (several 10 K above T-g) gives a length of very few nanometers. Using arguments from thermodynamic fluctuation theory it is concluded that a sharp kinetic transition temperature T-c > T-g is not possible for such small lengths.
