GRAIN-BOUNDARY STRENGTHENING ASSOCIATED WITH SIGMA=9 NEAR-COINCIDENCE BOUNDARY IN (1010) TWIST ZINC BICRYSTALS AT HIGH-TEMPERATURES

摘要
The effect of the presence of a grain boundary on creep deformation has been studied in zinc bicrystals containing <101BAR0> twist grain boundaries of different misorientations. It has been found that <101BAR0> twist boundaries hardly slide but readily migrate during creep deformation. The 51-degrees bicrystal whose boundary misorientation is close to SIGMA = 9 coincidence showed the greatest difficulty in creep deformation and exhibited the most significant grain boundary migration among the bicrystals studied. The presence of this low-SIGMA coincidence boundary was found to give rise to a more significant grain boundary strengthening in zinc at high temperatures. In comparison with the result of previous work on <101BAR0> tilt bicrystals, it has also been found that <101BAR0> twist boundaries are less effective than <101BAR0> tilt grain boundaries in grain boundary strengthening in zinc at high temperatures.
