Hydroxyapatite hollow particles have been prepared by pyrolysis of an aerosol produced by ultrahigh frequency of a CaCl2-(NH4) H2PO4 solution. Hollow particles were annealed at different temperatures. Thermal treatment at 1050 degrees C produces the growth of nucleated crystallites in the particle surface, giving place to an spectacular morphology. The raspberry-shaped particles are polycrystalline, the crystallite size being controlled as a function of the annealing time. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
