摘要
The activity of carnitine acetyl‐transferase (CAT) (E. C. 2. 3. 1. 7) has been determined in human seminal plasma and spermatozoa by a sensitive radioisotopic assay. 45 to 75 per cent of total CAT activity in the ejaculate is located in the seminal plasma, but the concentration of CAT (nmol [14C] acetylcarnitine formed per min per μl) is 30–120 fold higher in spermatozoa than in seminal plasma. Enzymes activating short‐chain fatty acids, e. g. acetate and propionate, are present in seminal plasma. Radiolabelled acetylcarnitine is not taken up by the human ejaculated spermatozoa.
